Back in the day Honda had a stake in Rover, and the Rovers that were imported in that era were badged as Sterlings.
Its been quite awhile since the Honda days, though I suppose some models can trace back to the Honda-era. The most recent 'new' platform is the Rover 75, which for all intents and purposes is a very good car. There is a MG sister to this car as well. These were developed in the more recent BMW-era.
I would hope the UK govt can help MG Rover pull through. I don't know how
much value the Rover brand has abroad, but MG could be a MINI-type renaissance, even in the US...
With regard to ALFA ROMEO.. please bring those here.. I will be one of
the first with check in hand.. and I generally hate to buy new cars (sorry Mike!) :)
