Without a doubt go for the 9000.... Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Tue, 24 May 2005 17:38:29 In Reply to: 94 900 vs 95 9000, About to Buy!, Tue, 24 May 2005 09:41:02 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The 9K is a much better built car than the NG900. Its faster, roomier, handles better and rides better. Reliability will be about the same.
The 9000 is much more car than the 900. The 2.3 turbo engine is pretty much bulletproof with the right care. Just make sure that the auto tranny shifts smoothly...and check the fluid too. Expect to eventually replace the heater core, DI, blower motor, and headgasket (if not done already). The 9000 also has great tuning potential, whereas there's really not much you can do for a naturally aspirated 900.
The chassis of the 900 is not the best designed in the world. It's squeaky and has a lot of flex (which can be addressed). Expect to have rattles in the hatch and dash. Be very wary of sludge in the 2.3 non turbo engine. The suspension design had flaws, and was updated in '96. The brakes aren't that great either. All that can be fixed though. Expect to replace the rear main seal eventually (if not already done) and probably the head gasket.
For me, its a no brainer. The 9000 has less miles and is a far better car. The 2.3 LPT engine won awards for its design. The 2.3 NA engine didn't. Go for the 9000 and you won't regret it!
