say about packing light. Just do laundry along the way. A few bucks and a couple hours once a week beats carrying lots of extra stuff. Some hotels have laundry facitliities, too. Marriott Residence Inns and most suite hotels have laundry rooms.
You should be able to get by with a decent size duffle bag each, some camping gear and some tools (take a spare DI).
I find two smaller bags work better than one big one.
On a 10K mile trip, I think you'd get real tired of having the box on the roof all the time. The constant noise can be a bother. If you really want to use a box, look at the one Thule makes that goes onto a receiver-type trailer hitch and sits behind the car. I haven't used one, but it might work.
IMO, traveling a roof box on a premium car like a Saab makes you more of a target for thieves because the bad guys will figure you're carrying a lot of goodies.
