Yes, you can only get another 256. But you can't use the the old memory, so you need to purchase 512M, probably as two of 256.

Brand is not very important.

That is each, you will need two of these. You can shop around and see if you can do better.

This seems quite expensive to me, but that is probably because of the chip type. You could put this money towards a new system perhaps.

If your system is slow, you need to check for problems with spyware and viruses first. Look for process that need not be running. Does the drive need to be de-frag'd?
