Reliable? Sure, certainly more so than the old school 900 I had in college. Just understand it WILL still break and it WILL cost more to fix than your roommate's Honda, but you'll actually have fun driving it.
-You will be VERY well served by a hatchback like the NG900
-Stay away from '94s: first year for a totally new car, never a good idea (except for the 9-3SS ;) )
-Stay away from the V6: There's a chronic timing belt problem that you're probably better off without (sorry V6 folks)
-Don't stay away from the Turbo: The non-turbo is fine, but MAN will you have a blast with the extra HP
-The automatics are actually pretty good if that's your thing
-Get it inspected by a pro before you buy... this is critical
This is the best site on the internet for Saab info bar none. I've been a Saab driver for 11 years and I still learn new things about these cars every day from the posters here.
