Seems to me that in this day and age, desmo valves are solving a problem that is purely theoretical. Suzuki, Honda, et al don't seem to have any problems at all building reliable, powerful engines with springs. And they generally require less maintenance than a Ducati too.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have an ST4, but it's not because it has a supposedly better valvetrain.
