With State Farm, you get a few weeks to insure the vehcile and you are covered and do not need to inform them in advance. This was for a replacement vehicle. We used insurance for another Saab that was current. Dealer in other state wanted to see and photo copy current proof of insurance. Then took new (used) vehicle to the insurance rep's office and they did a quick walk around looking for hail damage, windshield damage and bumps or dings. Got temp insurance slip on the spot and permanent one in the mail a week later.

Then went to KS State Police office for their inspection and they take down the VIN and $10. Then registration goes normally from there.
