Long slow decline of HP

My first job out of school was a position as a software engineer at HP.
At the time, the company was already a little bloated with many divisions not
quite pulling their own weight, but there was a definite esprit de corps
about HP. It's called the "HP Way". At the time, 1994-1997, I thought
I would stay at HP forever, and at the time, both Dave Packard and Bill
Hewlett were still alive.
From talking to people who stayed at HP, it looks very much like HP has
gone down hill ever since Lew Platt left.
I really didn't like the decision Carly Fiorina made to buy Compaq.
Everyone knew that Compaq was the sick old man of the computer industry,
and HP definitely did not need more divisions not making the grade.
Are there any other ex-HP employees here? I feel a little sad to see
HP sink the way it has and essentially lose its way. In its day, HP
was definitely something special, a corporation that was run like a
close-knit family.
Cheers,
Jae
