Cornering ability and emergency braking distances (wet or dry) are controlled/limtied by tire grip. Your vehicle came with high performance tires. With lesser tires the stopping distances can increase significantly and the success of accident avoidance manouvers will also be impacted.
High or max performance tires also stop way better in the wet.
Basic tires with high mileage ratings can easly become dangerously age hardened before the tread is worn out, or cup and become noisy and rough. So sometimes the promise of high tread life goes into the dump with useless tires that have lots of remaining tread. There is no promise that performance tires will not become noisy, but at least they do not refuse to die from tread wear.
High traction performance tires can last a long time for some folks, but some who drive agressively can eat them up in a hurry. If a young/green tire is abused, the wear can be substantial. With 'normal' driving, the rubber will cure and firm up and then be more wear resistant.
You do not need to be hot rodder to need performance tires. When emergency braking is needed, it is the tires, not the bake gear, that controls single-event braking performance. Many do not understand this. When you see track reports for vehicle stopping distances, you are mostly seeing the effects of the manufacture's tire choice, not the brake design!
