I've been commuting to work by bicycle and running errands on either bicycle or foot, and things have been fine. My car remains parked in front of the house, unused. I have no plans to drive it again until I have to.
However, in an act of somewhat paradoxical logic, we chose to take a long drive over the weekend...180 miles all over Massachusetts. Weather was grand, roads were empty, and we found the cheapest gas we'd seen in days (the Shell station in Hudson MA, 3.29 for premium). It was a lovely drive and we were able to justify it with the fact that we can't afford thousands of $$ for any kind of real vacation, but we can probably swing $50-$60 for some gas. I guess we could have stayed at home and saved the money, but this wasn't going to kill us, esp. when you consider all the city driving we're currently NOT doing by biking everywhere instead.
