Yes they do, but there is bad w/ the good.... My youngest son works for IBM where tele-commuting is not only allowed, but has been actively encouraged (at his location at least) during the past week as gasoline supplies dwindled and prices surged. That is the good.
Now for the bad. My son also routinely works 12+ hour days with only 8 hours on the company property. The remainder of the time is "off the clock" at home via tele-commuting. He will set-up his projects from home to start at 10:00pm when the servers are lightly loaded, wake at 2 or 3am to view the results, reset the parameters and run the projects a second time so the results are waiting for him at his work station the next day, then fall back asleep. He received his job evaluation recently and was given very high marks, partly I am sure due to his long hours of "off the clock" time. It appears to me the down-side of being able to tele-commute may be an expectation (from the employer) that employees will put in this amount of time.
Everything in life is a two-way street, I can't imagine tele-commuting is any different.
