It runs at higher pressures, thats why it has higher efficiencies. The operating pressures are higher and if there is a leak, it will leak faster at these pressures. And these units make more noise and vibrations because of the higher pressures. So these are not the quietest of the product lines.
I have a puron heat pump, with the high efficiency gas furnance. So this winter I will have a very high cost savings VS what the used to have... an old air con with an old furnace that was 80% when new.
The heat pump and furnace are both dual stage. The heat pump compressor has two pistons. When running high power, both pistons operate. At low power the electric motor reverses and the one piston is disengaged by some kind of one way drive/clutch.
I considered a high efficiency Trane unit at one point but the one that looked so good, the proper capacity as well, was 3 phase only. I think that they overcame that issue by now. Had Sears also spec out a Trane system and the price was way way high!
With the cost of fuel this winter, might be a good idea to consider something more that only replacing the AC.
