Hey Thom,
Thanks for the jealousy...I think. Wish you could'a come.
I've put in a couple days on tele gear, and all I need now is about one-bozillion dollars to get myself outfitted for it. I'm definitely more comfortable on my alpine gear, and I skin up with my trekkers. I'd hate to give up skiing some great lines because I'm not comfortable enough on the teles...so I've tried for the best of both worlds... now I just need to loose some weight in the boot department. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know that teles would solve that problem.)
The snow was "wet" for here... and the south-west aspects got the crust from the afternoon sun. It was decent...but not great. (Like my buddy said once we reached the ridge, "Even if the skiing's crumby, it's been a great walk!" That's my attitude on back country. It's great to get out on a hike in the winter, and why not bring the skis for the return trip, eh?
Cheers,
~Peter
