I think we have been using Oreck sweepers for 15+ years now & for my home I will never go back!!
The problem with the bags is the bad is the filter so every time you change the bag it throws dust into the room especially as the sweeper gets older. Since the disposeable bag is the filter some dirt/dust goes through it & attatches itself to the zippered bag that the disposeable bag sits in. This in time will get dusty & need to be cleaned otherwise you are throwing dirt/dust into the air.
The bags aren't to expensive (I forget the exact price) however it costs more for a hepa bags which adds up over time
I have 5 (was 6) cats & 2 dogs in my house. 4 of the cats are black/white & they like laying in certain areas of my bedroom. The oreck no matter how many times I would go over certain areas would have a layer of black hair on the carpet. So I took the Dyson over the spot & on 1 pass it was completely clean. The amount of dirt it pulls up is simply amazing as well, no comparison to what a oreck or any bag sweeper does especially as the bad gets full. The more stuff in the bag the less the suction & that's not the case with the Dyson.
With the dirt/dust when the canister is dumped, I feel I get a LOT less dust with dumping the dyson vs swapping the bag. I simply push a botton to remove the canister, walk to the trash can (outside) then push another button & it's empty.
