I have the 19" one on my desk next to a Samsung 19" one, both analog.
The Dell one is very mediocre, I wouldn't use it for gaming, the Samsung one is, maybe not top notch, but quite good. Given the choice, I'd probably get the 17" digital one, but I'd also think about upgrading the 19" one to a digital one if there's an option for that. Are you looking at the Xps 200? I'd recommend the upgrade to the 1905FP for $80, plus get the video card, not the integrated graphics. Also, the upgrade to 1G of RAM would be worth it. There aren't any games out there that can take advantage of the dual core, but if he's going to be playing games while other stuff is running, that might help some. If you want to save money, though, get the 630.
Just my $0.02
-Dave
