Mink oil is very good... Posted by turrbo [Email] (#8) [Profile/Gallery] (more from turrbo) on Sat, 5 Nov 2005 21:08:29 In Reply to: Leather hiking boot maintenance, recommendations?, Finch, Fri, 4 Nov 2005 18:22:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
But for in between treatments, a Penguin brand oiled leather sponge will keep the leather supple, keep it from drying out, and give it some protecting against the elements.
You may want to consider a silicone spray (again, I like Penguin the best) to protect the boot from staining and water damage. It won't interfere with the oil, just spray them, let dry and reapply the oil.
Keeping them well oiled is key, so make sure you don't go more than a few days between applying oil, and maybe do the mink oil once a month or so.
I've worked in a shoe store around this stuff for almost 6 years, so its like second nature to me. I don't leave without making sure my shoes are good to go.
