It's a case by case thing. You need the data points though. One, find out the buy out. Two compare that to values in KBB.com. The range of values in KBB.com to select, used cars, trade in value at fair condition (regardless of the actual condition of the car use "fair"), that's one benchmark, the other is private party value at good condition. If it's lots closer to the trade in at fair than fine, it'sa steal.. If it's real close to the private party value, not so fine.
Now you'll know if you need to negotiate the buy out, you may not. And if you do need to nego the buyout, you may or may not be able to anyway. It's a case by case deal and the lease companies are always comparing the buy outs to their market sources to see how they stand. They're not always right, but stuff happens.
