I was told a long time ago never to drink coffee on an empty stomach because it stimulates the organ while it has nothing to digest; a bit like running a pump that has no liquid to pump.

More recently, I was told to drop coffee because of recurring back pains. Coffee causes micro vascularization which affects muscles and the nervous system which cannot do their jobs properly causing the back pains. The problem is made worst because the effects from one cup of coffee last between 24 to 36 hours. Tea will have similar effects but only for a few hours. I have to admit my back has improved since I quit coffee, but not to the point of dropping my 9-5, which is one of the only cars that doesn't give be back pains on long journeys. So there it is; from Coffee to Saab...

I had quit coffee at another point in my life, because the same physician (and osteopath) told me my heart burns would disappear rapidly if I did, and they did. He was very adamant that coffee is really the pits because of the roasting process and the high fat content. He compares it to eating what's left over in a frying pan after use...Trouble is, a proper expresso is sooooooo good !
