You'll probably spend more on gas driving back and forth to court and other such arrangements than it would cost to pay the ticket. Helping someone out for an hour or two doing yardwork or shoveling snow would probably pay far better than spending time at court.
If your town is anything like ours, once in a blue moon they process overdue parking tickets. You could probably wait till after you start your job before paying it.
I have one that is 3-4 years old and it will cost $10 for me to pay it. The only reason it's unpaid is that I forgot about it, and they never reminded me till recently. They just got a boot because a bunch of people have more than a hundred unpaid tickets, and they plan to boot the biggest offenders. If you've only got a few tickets outstanding it's no big deal.
