I agree with your assessment. The 9k is more refined and the c900 feels more unbridled. The c900 is also clunkier, being one generation earlier. I love them both. I could never get tired of the timeless sexy look of the c900. I also like the 94-98 9000 look which never gets out of style, to me.
Problem is a c900 without rust is getting harder and harder to find. There are still sufficient number of 9k's in good sheet metal. In any case SAAB's rust resistance is superior to BMW IMO. I also have a 95 525i. The fuel and brake lines in the under-carriage have significant amount of rust. The under-carriage itself is also showing some rust not seen on any of my 9k's.
