If it's just the data you want to move (ie the laptop has a preinstalled OS etc that you want to retain) then you can just cable them, set up file & print sharing on one unit, and copy the files across. You will need to manually reinstall all your applications on the new unit.
If you want to copy all your applications, settings, etc etc then you have a larger job ahead of you; you will either need to take an image of the drive on your old machine and apply it on the laptop (letting Windows redetect all the hardware changes - fraught with peril (you DID remember to grab all the necessary hardware drivers for the new machine and download them to the old machine before you took an image, right?)) or get some kind of PC migration software that can copy all the system level stuff for you (I know it exists but have never used any).
I would go with the copy-data-and-reinstall everything method if it was me. I would also likely download all the drivers and reinstall Windows on the new machine from scratch rather than rely on a bloated, adware/spyware infested factory install. I like to have a fresh new install on a new machine rather than carry across all the accumulated garbage from the old unit.
