ARGH! Motorcycle question....mechanical ??

So the recent spat of warm weather has encouraged me to commute on the motorcycle. From the fall, it never really sat more than a week at a time. I've been commuting this whole week as well, no problems. This morning's commute has left me frustrated. The first few minutes were fine and normal. But about 3 miles down the road, EVERY time I pulled the clutch in, the engine would die??!! Thankfully I was carrying some speed and had my wits about me, I kept the clutch pulled in and hit start and would start but I'd have to keep the revs up a bit. I finally pulled over, turned it off and sat for a moment. When I started back up, seem to have no problem. What's the relationship between clutch and engine? To recap - pull the clutch in, engine dies! I don't get it.....
