NG900 vs Old classic 900 for long commute

I'm looking for a car to use for a long commute (75 miles each way, each day) am way poor and am trying to decide between another 1000 dollar wonder (classic 900 with 130k+) and a 3-4000 NG900 (probably a 100k SET)
The background:
I currently drive a subaru with 250k on it, but it's not comfortable enough to do 3 hours of driving in every day...
My wife commutes in a 97 900SET that has been great, but its our first NG900 and I don't know if I trust it yet...
My last saab was an 84 900 that ran up to 340k before the shocks came up into the trunk...
I worry that if I buy a 4000 dollar NG, it is only going to last 60-80k and fart out on me, where a 1000 classic could easily do 120k+, and even if it did die, would only put me out $1000...
BUT I love the NG900 just for being a "newish" car and not having minor mechanical trouble all the time...
What do I do?
