Interesting story about this morning's write-off of a "million-dollar" Ferrari on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu this morning. Traffic was snarled for hours. They speculate the car was doing well over 100mph when it hit a power pole.
MISC QUOTES
The driver of a red Ferrari Enzo lost control of the exotic car at high speed this morning on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, and the vehicle disintegrated after striking a power pole. The driver fled. His passenger suffered a cut lip.
The car is estimated to have been worth up to one million dollars. The driver ran into the hills after the 6:15 a.m. crash and the passenger stayed behind. The engine was on the highway and the Ferrari wreckage was several hundred yards away in the west Malibu area near Decker Canyon. Pacific Coast Highway was shut down for more than two hours.
The impact sheared the Ferrari in half, with the entire front section separated from the rest of the vehicle.
"For a million dollars, you get a very good passenger-safety system, and apparently in this case it did work."
UNQUOTE
Some amazing photos as well. The one I saw live on KTLA basically showed the front half of the car only remaining in one piece..
Million dollar scrap
