Don't quote me on this but I think Saab invented the head light washer/wiper system and installed it somewhere in mid 70s on their 95/96 and 99 models.
We hated it with a passion in Sweden because the government run test station forced you to have it working at the annual testing.
That first wiper arm system was not that reliable and with the snow and subsequently melt and freeze in front of the radiator, the wiper system broke the linkage, or the motor seized.
American cars imported to Sweden back in those days had an after market head light washer system added at the dealer ships to comply in Sweden since it was not invented here in US yet.
It was usually a plastic bag mounted in the engine compartment with a high pressure pump and nozzles mounted in front of the head lights squirting washer solvent at high pressure on the head light glass.
Didn't really work that great.
One Russian made car (I think it was Lada) had a wiper blade system glued to the center of the round head light and when pushing the squirt button, the wiper blade rotated around the center driven by the fluid pressure while the fluid was sprayed out on the glass.
It looked really funky and that glued on center portion came loose all the time.
