My opinion's not good Posted by Saabpilot [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: WOT: Anyone go see the Globetrotters?, SaabHubby, Wed, 8 Mar 2006 11:04:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I took my 5 year old a couple of months ago. He was mildly entertained. The event was alot more "staged" and less entertaining than I remember from my youth. Maybe I'm just getting old!
This surprised me: there were alot of racial comments that I really didn't appreciate during the show here in Columbus, Ohio. I try hard to make my son understand that all people are equal but the Globetrotters seemed to single out and make comments toward "white boys" and "white girls" in the audience during their skits (their words, not mine). Why they thought this was necessary I have no idea and I hoped my son didn't pick up on it. God knows if he said something like that regarding any race other than ours I'm sure the politically correct police and the television reporters would be at my house protesting and demanding I be re-educated to the ways of modern society, but I digress.
They "played basketball" for maybe 15 minutes of the two hour show. They'd make a few very staged passes and baskets, all with the cooperation of the opposing team (it's not a real team) then they would break into skits involving the referee, the other team and the audience. The referee and one of the Globetrotters were both on a live mic the entire time and they ran the skits. But they were extremely difficult to understand. I'm sure part of this was the fact that the sound system in the arena here wasn't designed for live voice as much as it was for music, etc.
Still, for the sake of your children I'm sure it's not a bad value for the money you're going to spend, just don't expect it to be as neat as it seemed when we were kids.
