I'm doing this on my Mac, but my Mac comes with audio inputs.
For a PC, you can get an audio input card that digitizes the signal. And then you'll need some software to read the card and create files. I'm sure there are many, many freeware and shareware programs. You'd connect your turntable to an amp with Line Outputs, and run the line out to the card's inputs.
A few things to note-
Coversion is in real-time. It takes 20 minutes to read the side of a 20 minute record.
Records are continuous. So the gap between songs is just a lower signal output. Some software may be able to detect these breaks and cut the files up into individual songs, but in my experience they don't work very well. So expect that you'll need to do some manual editing. So find some software that does that. Alternatively, you can simply record a single side as one file.
You'll also find your records have some skips, pops, and the like. Look for software that allows you to go in and fix them. Again, some software will do this automatically, but I find it doesn't work that well.
I use my Mac and Amadeus II, and it works quite well. I record each side as one file, then cut it into individual songs. I can also clean up some noise and pops. I also recommend saving the files in the most high-fidelity format - I use the same format as CD-s 44Khz. I can then always save it down to MP3, which loses some quality.
