We bought all new teak patio furniture last spring. I let ours weather to grey. It looks great and shows no sign of wear. It's a classic look, and gives the garden a lived-in look that I like. The grey layer is on the very surface, so it can be cleaned off if I decide to oil or varnish it someday. The problem I'm having, however, is with wasps. They love the stuff, at least around here. I'm experimenting with some pesticides on the furniture this year, which normally I don't like to use, but it does seem to be working.

If I decide to seal them, I will use marine spar varnish. I just got through sealing our front door with the stuff, and it looks incredible - very deep. You'll have to look around for the real stuff - Home Depot sells a MinWax version that says spar varnish in big letters, and urethane in small letters underneath. I've been told that the even the UV protected urethane will turn milky in the sun over time. Some other hardware store might have it, but I know you can get it at a marine supply store or online. The brand I bought is McKloskey's (sp?). Get semi-gloss or satin - the gloss is way way way shiny (good look for a boat, though).

I decided against oil, partly because all of the maintenance required to keep it up - you have to oil it spring and fall, cleaning it each time - and partly because it attracts dirt.
