I'm still well aware of the snow pack there this year. I check Sugar Bowl and Mammoth Mtn websites nearly daily... then cringe... because every ski resort here is closed, and my dad skied on 36" of 25degree snow on Monday. Mammoth has indicated that they plan to load skiers until July 4th again this year.
Some people just don't believe the snow pack potential there in the Sierras. You kinda have to see it (Cascades too!)
I'm hiking the John Muir Trail (JMT, see link below for some pics!) this summer (July 29-Aug19), and I expect to run into snow. It should be good though, because the snow should be limited to north aspects by then. It'll be my end-of-grad-school-gift-to-myself adventure before I start my job in Nevada City, CA.
I can't wait to dip in the Yuba though. By August 19th the water should be low enough to be safe!
