Police say it appears a 17-year-old driver who hit and killed a cyclist in Chilliwack, B.C., this week was distracted by her cellphone.
Const. Steve Hiscoe says the fatal accident is a tragic reminder for drivers. (CBC)
The teenager, who was driving eastbound on a local street, drifted across the centre line and onto the opposite shoulder of the road, striking a Chilliwack woman who was riding her bike westbound.
Police say the 33-year-old victim was taken to Chilliwack General Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

RCMP spokesman Const. Steve Hiscoe said charges are anticipated.
He said the accident should serve as a warning to other drivers not to use their cellphones while driving.
"When a driver takes their eyes off the roadway for whatever reason – and in this case it is the cellphone – we're not paying attention to our driving anymore."
A 2003 study conducted by University of Montreal researchers showed drivers talking on cellphones were 38 per cent more likely to be involved in an accident.
The RCMP doesn't have an official position on whether talking on cellphones while driving should be banned outright.
But Sgt. Joseph Smith of the force's traffic division said he's made up his mind.
"Personally, I think they should be banned while a person is driving a vehicle. There is certainly evidence out there that drivers are unaware what's going on around them when they are tied up with other matters like speaking on cellphones."
