New Dilemma - SAAB SPG and Toyota Prius Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I just got offered a job at my company to jump from the engineering services side to sales. I will be a "Global Account Technical Consultant" for Toyota, which is a natural transition for what I've been doing. More $$$$, bonus program, and a fleet car. Car includes the lease, insurance, and a fleet gas card. It's OK to use for personal use, too. The guys with cars who call on Toyota typically get a Camry or Sienna, but one guy broke new ground and got a Prius. I think I'll opt for a Prius, too. I'll have to wait for it, but so be it.
So, here's the problem. My wife has a 2001 9-3, and I have a 94 C900TC CE and 90 SPG. The 94 vert is mint with about 80k, and I'll be keeping it for a long time to come. The SPG, on the other hand, is rusty. There is no way I can keep 4 cars at my condo, so the SPG will have to go when the Prius shows up.
It's at about 158k, runs like a beast, and is super fun to drive. BUT, it's in California, and it's rusty east coast car. I doubt anyone locally would pay more than a grand for it. However, it has a new cat, and a host of parts worth more than a grand in total. Hell, the Bosch bits could be stored away for my vert. I HATE the idea of crushing her after taking the choice parts, but that looks like the best financial option for me. What hurts the most is that for many years to come I'll know that was the most fun car I've ever owned. The difficulty of crushing it is how/where to part it out, and how to get it hauled off. My condo association wouldn't appreciate me doing this...
What to do, what to do?
