First, most of the US folks on this board will have no idea what you're talking about. I assume N registration is 1996 model year.
I really doubt you need new headlamp units.
What, exactly, was failed in terms of being uneven? If the light output is uneven, I would simply put in a new set of bulbs. Unless the reflectors are badly clouded or the lens badly clouded or pitted, the headlight assembly itself has little to do with how bright the headlights are. But bulbs do lose output as they age.
The other could be that 'uneven' means they aren't aimed properly. The UK CD model may have self-aiming headlights. There are little motors to move the headlights to adjust for load in the back of the car. Replacing the headlight units would be a very expensive way to fix a simple problem. At a minimum, you could manually aim the headlights, and just don't put anything in (or take anything out of the trunk) before going to the MOT. Or, if the motors have an issue, troubleshoot the motors. If you have the non-self-leveling system (manual), the UK Haynes manual tells how to align the headlamps, or have any competent garage do it.
