I think I may have avoided that specific problem by replacing the rubber washer between the bolt and the tensioner housing in which it sits. When I first tried to reinsert the bolt it was near dark so a detailed visual inspection was out of the question, but the following morning in bright light I saw that the rubber washer was cracked. So even if I did manage to get that bolt to thread up the night before, it would have probably leaked because of the split washer. I didn't have a replacement rubber washer of that size, so I used a copper one taken from a spare temp sensor. I'm sure it wouldn't have flowed like a river, but just a small leak would have been one more leak source that probably would have gone undetected until a major engine disassembly. I already have a leaky oil pump seal and on the forward engine plate gasket. Nothing drastic, just annoying.
