Genuinesaab lists the conversion kit at around $1000. Although I support reducing our reliance on petroleum and increasing our use of renewable fuel sources, this conversion kit satisfies my environmental longings only, and not my cost savings desires. Until the price of E85 drops significantly (or the price of gasoline spirals higher yet) there is negative savings.
The biggest detriment to me is the lack of E85 availability in the US. The auto companies have been selling E85 vehicles for years now but the oil companies won't sell the fuel. Likewise, the oil companies won't bring clean diesel fuel to market in the US allowing us to utilize clean burning diesel engines, yet they sell this fuel in Europe!
Saab has E100 engines in their prototypes. IF E85 fuel gains wider distribution here in the US, I am confident Saab will offfer the E100 engines (which will burn E85 as well) in the US.
