Hi, I could use some advice on having my '96 Saab 900 convertible top replaced. It's an job and I need to save money somewhere, and I thought find a stayfast top with/window glass was the place to start. Has anyone out there found a reliable replacement top provider on their own? (I am in Norwalk, CT). Ditto for installers in my area.
Also soliciting some general commentary on my model year. I bought the car used and drove it straight to the local Saab dealer for a once over and they acted as if the '95, '96, '97s were barely Saabs because of problems encountered with th GM takeover and also suggested I return my car if I could and come back and get something used from them. Re top replacement, I was told that the the first OEM of the convertible tops for the aforementioned model years, consistently delivered tops not to spec. sizes and that they had to be expertly fit (cut canvas to correct size) and that that problem still exists. I tried more than one Saab dealer (one of which won't even touch a top replacement) and there seemed to be general disdain for the '95 '96, and '97s. I guess my question is, are they right? Does my model year suck in general and not just because of the top replacement issue? Oh, and there was also an awful lot of ragging on the Tonneau motor that runs the top as well.
Thoughts comments...please!
