the police will most definately be interested, and your insurance company will probably want a copy of the police report when you file with the insurance.

definately document with pictures of both your and their car (if they have damage/paint streaks on theirs), also put a yardstick up against your car and against their car to show the relative heights. if you know approximately what time this might have happened, see if any of the other neighbours heard/saw anything as well and get their statements.

while it's probably a lot of work for nothing, if things do go badly at least you will have proof to offer up. sorry to hear you've been bitten by society's general refusal to accept responsibility for anything done nowadays.
