They certainly seemed more courteous in other respects. Maybe they ticket for lack of turn signal use, however. They have a country-wide law that you have to keep two hands on the wheel (except while shifting, I would think), and I heard a story of a girl that was ticketed for twirling her hair with one hand while driving. Of course, in the US, ticketing is almost exclusively reserved for speeding. In Oz, much of the ticketing for speeding is done by photo radar.
Regarding the side of the wheel that the turn signal stalk is on, I thought I remembered it being on the left in a car I drove in the UK, 20 years ago.
