I would have recommended you do a search on the 9k bulletin board for issues regarding Saab synthetic in manual trannies. There's lots of stuff, much of which I posted from my own experience with the issue. Also, if you had asked Eriksson transmissions, Matt would have told you to avoid Saab synthetic. Did you get your transmission from them?
Your transmission failures have been more catastrophic than others I have heard of, but I would still suspect that the reason is the use of inappropriate transmission lubricant.
The loose bolt you found does suggest that the shop is not sufficiently meticulous. I would recommend a new shop. As for blaming them for the tranny failures, I would say that most shops probably don't keep up with details like whether the new synthetic lubricant that Saab says is the best thing ever is actually appropriate for 9000 ZF manual trannies. Check the bulletin board instead.
