Maybe someone will have an old fashioned...... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: OT: Calculating ventilation "free area" requirement., PBS, Thu, 2 Nov 2006 06:58:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
"Ductilator" handy which will give you a good number. Mine is stored away in a box in my basement.
There are a number of factors to consider, i.e. static pressure capability of the fan, maximum tolerable noise level, resistance through the vent, etc. But without making this too difficult, an air speed of 50fpm is considered as "still air" meaning no one can feel the air moving. Your absolute maximum vent size is therefore 4 to 6 sq feet depending on fan selection. You could probably easily cut value this in half without causing too much noise or air flow reduction, meaning 2 to 3 sq ft of vent.
A "ductilator" may confirm an even smaller size to be acceptable.
