I'd suggest going in on a Sunday and not announcing your visit to the landowner or parking on their land. Have someone drop you off.
People can pass through the woods without getting landowner permission unless the landowner posts otherwise. Even then, the posting is not very legally strong, and you not be likely to get more than a warning if you did get in trouble. Of course if they have a fragile property, dangerous animals, or razor wire fence, you might want to find another route. The landowner might be growing pot or doing other illegal things in the woods that would cause them to shun visitors. If it's airport property or a military base, it would be good to find another route as well.
Hunting is generally more important to get permission, as unwanted strangers shooting guns could be a real problem, and game wardens like to see hunting season go well for everyone.
Woods owners who post no tresspassing usually want to prevent damage from ATVs or risk from shortsighted hunters.
