That is the first rule. So if any tire pressure gauge has been dropped then it is suspect. It needs to be checked against a known good gauge.
Now where to get a 'good' gauge. The easiest bet is a digital pressure gauge. The majority of digital gauges are accurate to +/- 1 pound or better. I have had very good luck with digital gauges from Accutire I bought from the Tire Rack and and Griot's Garage digital gauges (made by whomever they buy them from).
I have two Acccutire gauges, a Griot's Garage digital 1/4 pound increment "racing" gauge, and an ancient Accu-gage analog bourdon tube dial-type gauge. All measure with-in +/- 1/2 pound of each other.
