I find the fogs on our '03 9-5 to be useful on dark rural roads--which are common where we live. The ones on my 9K are less useful in that respect but the aim can be adjusted somewhat.

And last winter in a blizzard at night coming thru the Berkshires, I ran one stretch with my headlghts off and the fogs on and could see better. I couldn't see as far, but visibility was so poor it didn't matter and it was less tiring to have the fogs alone lighting the way.

In the same storm the rear fog helped keep the back of the car visible. The flat back end on a 9K gets coated with snow during a storm and when I stopped at one point the only places that didn't have 1+" of snow on them were my tail lights and the rear fog. In about 150 miles I saw many other cars without a rear fog and they were nearly invisible, except you could tell they were there by their headlights. I always turn the rear fog on in heavy rain, fog and snow, especially on big highways. I find people behind you stay back further, which is something you want.

What I don't like are the yahoos--usually ricer boyz--who drive around with their driving lights on to flaunt the cool factor. Fortunately they tend to use the cheap, $20 lights instead of the good ones which have much more light output.

But I admit to running with my fogs on all the time when my head lights are on. I like the way it looks. That said, though, I have seen both our 9Ks and the 9-5 from the front at night and the fogs are well-aimed and do not affect other drivers.
