Clearly in violation of the intent of the OBD-II Regs.. Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: At least not one without factory scantools., SWEDECAR ![]() ![]() |
My understanding of the reason SaabUSA no longer offers the WIS for sale in the US is for compliance with a provision of the OBD-II Regulations, which requires automakers to make service information easily available to ALL licensed repair shops, thereby giving consumers a choice in where to have their automobiles repaired (and making emergency repairs while on the road easier too!)
Saab & GM created http://www.SaabTechInfo.com containing all the necessary service information with subscription periods as short as one day, but annual rates too (at $500 last time I looked).
Charging $7,000 per year for software access seems like a clear attempt to snub the intent of the rugulations. A small shop repairing one Volvo per day will need to add a $30/car surcharge to each bill just for the software access - whether it was needed for that particular car/repair or not.
Shame on Ford Motor Company for this consumer gouging.
