MM answered the questions, but just in case...
Remember the old Sony Walkman? You popped a cassette tape in it. Well, if you can remember those, the IPod is an "Apple" brand of a player like the old Sony, except instead of popping in a cassette, you pop in the music by hooking it up to your computer and choosing what you want on there. And remember how Sony wasn't the only company that made portable cassette players? Well, like that, Apple makes the IPod, but other companies also make players; you could play the cassette on any portable player, and similarly, you can play the songs (MP3 or whatever version) on any player, as long as it actually can play that kind of song. You couldn't pop an 8 track into the Walkman (at least not the one I had!). Also, you could go to the store and buy a pre-recorded casette or you could hook up your turntable to a stereo with a cassette recorder and copy your records onto the tape. Well, going to the store is like downloading from the Apple store, or Napster, or any of those places. Ripping the music from a CD using Windows Media Player is like coying your old records.
