I'm trying to connect my Pocket PC Phone audio out to Aux input of the car stereo ('00 9-3) modified as per Seth's method (soldering on telephone lines) and I'm stuck for some strange reasons.

First, I regularly have used the Aux input without any problem for about a year. I plug in my laptop and friends iPod with no issues.

The phone has 2.5mm audio out and requires 2.5mm (male) to 3.5mm (female) adapter to connect using a 3.5mm/3.5mm male-male cable to the Aux input.

I have three kinds of 2.5mm/3.5mm adapters right now and before I purchase anymore I want to know what's going on. All of them have the call start/end buttons, but one's without the volume control and the other two are with the volume control. I'll call them w/o VC, Verizon, and LG.

1)with ear buds:
All work fine, including the volume control on both Verizon and LG.

2)with home stereo and any other powered speaker systems:
All work fine, except the volume control on LG doesn't work while the volume on Verizon works.

3)Now most importantly, with the Saab stereo:
Only LG works properly with loud and clear sound. But, it works only with the volume adjusted somewhere in the middle. And the volume doesn't seem to be working up and down.
Verizon and w/o VC doesn't work properly. The loudest setting with the car volume all the way up sounds like level 1 out of 20. But, the volume control on Verizon works.

What the heck is going on here? Can anyone shed some light what's happening? I'm pretty dumbfounded right now.
