Industries based on animals... Posted by Caarma [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Barbaro (the horse) was euthanized, turrbo ![]() ![]() |
... are somewhat inhumane to begin with. We're using them for profit and if they don't have the traits we want, we get rid of them. That's why I nolonger buy pets, go to rodeos, horse races, dog races, etc... A dog is not bad if it barks too much. It's just being a dog that doesn't conform to what we want out of it. We label it and punish it for its natural behavior.
I put a quote similar to this on my blog a while ago...
"The smartest pets are the ones that won't do tricks."
One could argue that many of these animals wouldn't exist without our use of them, but we could always work towards stopping mistreatment and keep them in different circumstances without exposing them to dangerous situations. The economic implications would be huge so it would have to be a gradual process.
And I know that in some parts of the world, animals are needed to do work for survival. I can't argue with that as it's natural for us to value human life over animal life.
