Powder Coating Rims

Went to put some tires on the rims for my Mustang. I know I know its a Saab Board. Nothing wrong with the rims on my 93 9000CSE...than goodness.

Anyways, the chrome on some Eagle Alloys was flaking on the inside portion of the rim...so it really didnt effect the looks. When the tires came off there was some flaking where the inside tire bead would be. Bad news.

Hoping to save these rims...like the geometry of them, a nice classic 5 spoke. But re-chroming is out of the question. Expensive, and involves lots of shipping. Was wondering about powder coating. Will the powder coat hold up to having tires installed and removed? Also does the coating surface pick up dirt quickly..and does it clean easily.

There is a local guy doing powder coating that has a chrome equivilent. Although he says the look is a dull chrome....can't get the polished metal look. So I suspect it's something like a brushed aluminum look. Has to shoot a clear over the powder coating in this application. Wonder how well a clear coat will hold up?

I appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this subject.
