also supposed to remain off.
The silly thing is, as near as I have been able to find out, all the electronic toys have no effect on aircraft radio, control or navigation systems. Two airline pilots I know and a guy whose business is electronic interference have told me this.
The reason they want them off and stowed for take off and landing is so that if there is an emergency people won't have headphones on and be be able to hear crewmember instructions, won't be tripping over headphone wires, and so there will be less loose debris flying around the cabin.
