Color, bushy tail and narrow snout are the give aways. Coyotes have a lot of color variations but have a bit of a different shape than a fox. 'yotes also vary a lot in size.

Foxes are usually smaller, but I've seen some the size of yours in NH.

And LOTS of animals are coming into suburbia. They adapt much faster than humans to some types of enviro changes. And they find that suburbs are good restaurants. Small to medium size dogs, house cats and trash barrels are all on the menu. In NH where I am the average life expectancy of a small dog or cat that is let out of the house to run loose in under 24 months.
