Personally if I was shopping I'd like to see the 9-3 SS be a 2005 or newer. The 9-2X and 9-3SS both have good IIHS crash test results and are close in size and weight but there is more substance to the 9-3SS and I think overall it is clearly the safer car. That would be enough to settle it for me. It is also a grin maker in the handling area (not saying the 9-2X isn't just that it is a fun car). At any rate it is the one that appeals to me of the two.
